Good light is essential to see well and this need increases as we grow older. With each passing decade our eyes deteriorate and begin to struggle to focus. Without good lighting the eyes can become strained as they try to focus.
One of the first things people notice as their eyes begin to deteriorate is that reading becomes difficult. Focusing become problematic with lots of shifting the book back and forth, and the text somehow doesn’t seem to show well against the paper.Somehow this takes a lot of the pleasure out of reading things.
One way to deal with this problem is by using daylight bulbs instead of normal ones. Daylight bulbs are designed to replicate sunlight and give off a bright, white light. So when you’re reading it’s no longer black text against a dingy yellow tinted page. Instead the page will be white and the text look crisp and bold against it making it easy to read.
If your hobbies include craftwork, drawing, etc then you may like to consider a magnifying lamp to aid you in seeing well. They combine a magnifying glass so that you can see small detail easily with a light that shines directly onto your work. Again you can get them with daylight bulbs for extra clarity that will stop you causing your eyes stress.
However not all daylight bulbs are the same. Cheaper bulbs are often like normal ones but given a blue hue. Full spectrum daylight bulbs, on the other hand, throw out the same spectrum of light as you get from the sun. This is why they are used in SAD lamps for use by people with Seasonal Affective Disorder. These again give out excellent levels of light and can be used by anyone not just SAD sufferers.
Good lighting is essential to avoid eye strain and headaches. Getting the right lighting can make an enormous difference to everyday indoor tasks.
